ALL IN – LOVE #1
1 John 4:19 (NIV) We love because he first loved us.
1 John 4:7 (NIV) Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
John 13:35 (NIV) By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
1 John 2:15 (NIV) Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.
Matthew 5:44 (NIV) But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
John 15:13 (NIV) Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
LETS LOOK HOW THIS WORKS OUT IN OT
In 2 Chronicles 33 chapter we see the story of Manassiah
King Manasseh 12 yrs old when he became King and served for 55 yrs. 696 b.c.
Very evil, burned his sons, put idols in Temple, used fortune tellers, Very wicked
His father was King Hezekiah, Godly King
Some think that love began in the N.T. Not really!
2 Chronicles 33:9-13 (NIV)
9 But Manasseh led Judah and the people of Jerusalem astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites.
God had destroyed nations because of their sinfulness…but now Israel is worse than them…NO love or respect for God
10 The LORD spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention.
God tried to get their attention just as He is trying to get our attention.
11 So the LORD brought against them the army commanders of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh prisoner, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon.
Maybe it takes drastic measures to get our attention
12 In his distress he sought the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors.
WELL LOOK HERE! NOW HE CALLS ON GOD!
13 And when he prayed to him, the LORD was moved by his entreaty and listened to his plea; so he brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.
God is moved …. boy this is LOVE, real love.
Brought him back… wow…we can marvel at Gods love.
Do we understand God is looking for any opportunity to display His love, even to unlikeable people as we are!
2 Chronicles 33:19 (NIV) His prayer and how God was moved by his entreaty, as well as all his sins and unfaithfulness, and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself–all these are written in the records of the seers.
WHAT IS LOVE ANY WAY? Well the New Testament tells exactly what it looks like.
1 Corinthians 13:3-4 (NIV) 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
We make jokes and kind laugh it off!
IN THE CHURCH
We must make a concerted and intentional effort to ensure that the church is both a figurative and literal sanctuary for shattered souls and a haven for fractured relationships. Unfortunately for many hurting people the Church is not a safe place they can trust and feel free from judgement, criticism or condemnation. We must become emotionally safe, accepting, consistent, trustable and authentic people with secure, reliable and biblical boundaries
It is imperative that we strive to embrace the brokenhearted, emancipate those in captivity and enlighten those in darkness. But to do so, we must confront the unholy three problems of silence, shame and disgrace that exists in many quarters of the Church surrounding mental and relational problems.
LOVE THEM WITH PATIENCE
